INTERVIEW: Breakup Songs and Love Songs with Seersha

The synth-driven dark pop song “Wasteland” was the first single released by singer, songwriter, musician and producer Seersha.  Since then she has released her full self titled EP, Seersha, which you can get in all the usual places like iTunes and Spotify.   You have also saw her here at Libro Musica as she curated a monthly mix of electronic music with Seersha’s Seven.

We are pleased to add her to our Valentine’s Day series on love songs and breakup songs.

My favorite love song is Sarah McLachlan’s “I Love You.”  I have a recurring obsession with the album this song is on, Surfacing. But this song in particular has gotten me through every unrequited crush I’ve had since 1997. To me, it perfectly captures that feeling of being crazy infatuated with someone and not being able to tell them.

Thankfully I haven’t had to deal with much romantic heartbreak in the past few years–my hubby and I celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary this year! Let’s see, what were my go-to breakup records… a lot of The Early November… Alkaline Trio (especially “Enjoy Your Day” and “Radio”)… also, Nelly Furtado’s “Sh*t On The Radio”.

I think “Typical” is a great Valentine’s song. Some of the lyrics read like a quirky Valentine card. At the heart of it, it’s a really sweet song.

When it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day, I don’t like to give into the commercialization of everything, so we usually don’t go out. Last year we ordered in sushi and made some miso soup and had a nice at-home date night. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what we do again. I am a sucker for physical cards for pretty much every holiday though, so I’ll probably make some homemade Valentines.

There is new music coming this year, and new visuals, but I can’t share when yet! I wish I could tell you more but y’all will have to sit tight for a little longer. I’m really focused on the visual aspect of Seersha’s world right now, which is very fun and I can’t wait for you all to see what we’ve been working on. Expect some local shows in ATL in spring/summer as well.

If you haven’t shared you favorite love song and favorite break up song we would love to hear from you.  On Valentine’s Day I will pick my favorites from the submissions and give away t-shirts, stickers and tickets to an upcoming show.
