Lydia Ainsworth is reminiscent of the exotic female vocalists who made early trance music so powerful. She does not create music exclusive to the experimental pop, sensual r&b, or chaotic electronic sounds she embraces. She has an otherworldly sensuality and a rich creative vision. Her “Into the Blue” video uses moving water, interpretive choreography, and reflected/refracted images to dreamily peek to her mind and reveal quiet beauty.
‘Into the Blue’ is the first single released off Lydia Ainsworths newest record Darling of the Afterglow which is available now on Arbutus Records/Bella Union. Following the release of this video, the Toronto composer, producer, and singer will take her record on a headlining tour through North America and abroad.
“Into the Blue” is a song with pop sounds that venture into electronic wandering and experimental R&B. It evokes feelings of otherworldly spinning and deep thought, both dreamy and eccentric. Mirror images of sea life and interpretative dancers flit around Ainsworth underwater in a literal interpretation of her aquatic concept. The choreography pushes and pulls like tides. The dancers’ limbs swim, drift, flow, and drown as floating jellyfish rise and fall. The video uses color in a way dynamic and distinctly similar to how Ainsworths explores her own range. Emotions are taken from soulful and sensual to deep and pensieve. We are given a cinematic peek into her mind where things are beautiful but speed and shape change perception with metamorphic wonder.
The video for Lydia Ainsworth’s “Into the Blue” is creative, etheral, and deep. It stands up against and actually adds to her beautiful composition. As she takes her charm and sound on tour this summer, she has potential to attract new audiences while still pleasing fans. It would not be surprising to see remixes of her tracks by US and Canadian DJs on festival circuits this summer. “Into the Blue” is just a peek at the depths Lydia Ainsworth reveals with Darling of the Afterglow. Check out the video now and if you like it as much as we did, get the record and tickets to your closest tour date today.
