NEW MUSIC: Funky Soul from Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears on “PTP”

High energy funk soul band Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears just released the first single, “PTP”, from their soon to be released fourth full-length album Backlash. Backlash is set for release on February 10, 2017 on INgrooves.  When I tossed on my headphones to take a listen to “PTP” the horns and electric guitar intro instantly transported me to the 60’s (I think that my ‘fro grew a few inches).  The track is wild and free and filled with much of the revolutionary sound that made the music of the 60s and 70s so amazing.  “PTP” could be played on your record player at home, the 8-track player in your car, in a hot and sweaty bayou juke joint, or in a dance club in Brooklyn.  Pull out your bell-bottoms and stacked shoes then crank up the volume to listen to “PTP.”

If you are thinking about what to get me for Valentine’s Day or Black History Month, Backlash would certainly be a pleaser.  According to the band Backlash will be filled with their signature gritty guitar, Stax Records styled horn sections and MORE.

“I wanted to go for more of a soul/blues/rock-and-roll sound compared to the last one—the kind of stuff I was doing back in the day, but with the songwriting a little more evolved: – Black Joe Lewis

A Texas native, Black Joe Lewis discovered his love for the blues soon after learning to play guitar in his late teens. Black Joe Lewis name people like Lightnin’ Hopkins and Iggy Pop among his main inspirations.  Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears have been putting out their own brand of classic soul and amped up R&B since in 2007.  “Sugarfoot” is one the tracks that gives you a taste of what the band feels like live.
