I recently discovered the music of singer/produce Amber Mark. Earlier this week the soulful independent artist Amber Mark released the single “Way Back.” Just before Valentine’s day she released her first single “S P A C E” on Soundcloud. Since uploading her fist song to Soundcloud this fresh new artist has seen it played on the DJ Zane’s BBC Radio 1 show, featured on Apple’s iTunes homepage and in the top 50 on Spotify’s Global Viral Chart. This should serve as motivation to other independent artists to continue doing what they do and sharing their best with the world on the web and social media.
Once you take a listen to “S P A C E” I’m sure that you will see why it has garnered so much attention. The song opens with handclaps followed by Amber Mark’s hypnotizing voice and then the bass line kicks in.
“an anthem for those who ‘just need some space’ away from anything or anyone…” – Amber Mark
This is an beautifully put together first release from the NYC based artist. Enjoy this mix of tribal and soul music and let us know what you think. This is definitely one to add to your Libro Musica. Find “S P A C E” on iTunes here. Take a listen to Amber Mark’s “S P A C E” on Soundcloud.
On “Way Back” Amber Mark tells an inspirational story about the long long path to recovering from a broken heart. Amber Mark’s infusion of dance and tribal rhythms bring a fresh new twist to the soul music genre. Take a listen to Amber Mark’s “Way Back” on Soundcloud.
Q&A With Amber Mark
What was the first album that you added to your personal music library?
Bob Marley was what I liked to listen to on my moms Walkman when I was a baby… So I guess he was the first addition.
What was your most recent addition to your personal music library?
“Ojuelegba” By Wizkid
What was your first live music experience? Which venue and which artist(s)?
My first live experience was Michael Jackson World History Tour in Munich 97′ I was four years old and cried at the end because it was over. The Quincey/Michael Collaboration was and still is to this day one of my Idols when it comes to Music production and Performance. Seeing Michael live was one I’ll never forget.
If you could cover one album in your music library which would it be?
Hard to choose one album because I go through phases with different artists constantly. I would most likely choose a compilation album of artist’s songs I want cover. I guess if I had to choose… An EP I’ve currently been listening to non-stop would be
Gabriel Garzon-Montano’s “Bishounè: Alma Del Huila”.
What artist do you wish more people had in their music library?
Prem Joshua; A Tribe Called Quest(They have a big following, but I always feel like there are more people in this world that should be listening to Tribe; João Gilberto; Skepta; Gotye, specifically Like Drawing Blood album); and Gabriel Garzon-Montano
